Walgreens Supporting Patients, Customers and Communities Ahead of Approaching Winter Storms

DEERFIELD, Ill.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–As severe winter storms and dangerously cold temperatures are forecasted across the country this weekend, Walgreens is taking proactive steps to support the safety and well-being of its patients, team members and communities. Walgreens is monitoring the trajectory of winter storms closely and encourages all team members and patients in the impacted regions to follow guidance from local authorities and prioritize their safety and well-being.

In preparation, we are actively deploying resources to ensure uninterrupted access to essential medications and pharmacy services across impacted regions, including:

  • Store Locator: Walgreens will be updating the store locator on Walgreens.com and the Walgreens mobile app with the latest information on store hours and closures. If Walgreens must close certain locations, patients will be able to get a majority of prescriptions filled at the closest possible Walgreens location that is not impacted. Patients with scheduled appointments will be notified of any changes via email, text message, or app notifications.
  • Pick Up Prescriptions Now: If you have refills due or medications running low, please call your Walgreens pharmacy as soon as possible so we can assist with refills or transfers before conditions worsen. We are adjusting schedules to ensure we have more team members available to support you.
  • 24/7 Pharmacy Support: Patients can speak with a Walgreens pharmacist 24/7 through the Pharmacy Chat feature on the Walgreens app and website.
  • Specialty Pharmacy Services: For Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy patients in impacted areas, Patient Care Advocate teams are proactively contacting individuals to discuss alternate delivery arrangements, if needed, to ensure ongoing access to care and treatment.
  • Medication Storage During Power Outages: Patients using temperature-sensitive medications, such as insulin, should review proper storage instructions in case of a power outage to ensure their medications remain effective.

Walgreens stores are offering a range of winter weather preparedness items to help customers stay safe during severe conditions. Availability may vary by location. Customers are encouraged to visit their nearest Walgreens in anticipation of the severe weather to ensure they have what they need to stay safe and prepared. Walgreens also offers free same-day delivery for prescriptions and front-of-store needs in certain areas, weather permitting. To request delivery, use the Walgreens app, visit Walgreens.com, or call your local store for assistance.
