Approximately 90 distinguished guests attended the event, including healthcare leaders, policymakers, and clinical experts. Featured speakers included Superintendent Fu Yin-chih of KSCH; former Speaker of Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan, Wang Jin-pyng; Dr. John Adler, Founder and CEO of ZAP Surgical Systems and Emeritus Professor of Neurosurgery and Radiation Oncology at Stanford University, and others.

Highlighting the importance of the installation, KSCH also received a formal congratulatory message from President Lai Ching-te, recognizing the introduction of this advanced neurosurgical technology to Taiwan.

ZAP-X is the first and only radiosurgery system that eliminates the need for costly, confining shielded radiation vaults. This breakthrough enables a more comfortable and patient-friendly experience, including treatment suites with floor-to-ceiling windows — replacing the traditional model of isolating patients within concrete bunkers for extended periods.

ZAP-X is also renowned for its first-in-kind gyroscopic design that enables radiation delivery from thousands of unique beam angles. This pioneering approach aims to enhance the ability to spare healthy brain tissue and thereby reduce potential risks such as cognitive decline.

“With the rapid advancement of precision medicine, the introduction of ZAP-X represents a meaningful breakthrough in the treatment of brain tumors in Taiwan,” said Dr. Huang Ming-ho, President of Show Chwan Healthcare System. “Its ground-breaking design enables for the treatment of primary and malignant brain tumors and other disorders without incisions, without pain, and typically with minimal to no patient recovery period.”

Dr. John Adler underscored the importance of clinical adoption in driving innovation by stating, “While inventing new technology is essential, its true impact depends on those willing to implement it. The availability of ZAP-X in Taiwan reflects the leadership and vision of pioneers like Dr. Huang and the Show Chwan team. Their commitment will expand access to advanced, non-invasive neurosurgery for patients across the region.”

About ZAP Surgical Systems, Inc.

ZAP Surgical Systems, Inc., a global leader in non-invasive robotic brain surgery, is committed to reducing the costs and complexities that limit access to world-class radiosurgery (SRS) for the brain, head, and neck. The company manufactures the ZAP-X® Gyroscopic Radiosurgery® platform and is also pioneering new applications of high-precision SRS in areas such as depression, addiction, and obesity. Founded in 2014 by Dr. John R. Adler, Emeritus Dorothy & TK Chan Professor of Neurosurgery and Radiation Oncology at Stanford University, ZAP introduced the world’s first vault-free radiosurgery platform – eliminating the need for costly shielded treatment rooms and enabling flexible, high-visibility siting.
