Alcon Launches UNITY® CS at COS 2026, Advancing the Next Generation of Surgical Innovation in Canada

  • UNITY® CS, part of Alcon’s award-winning UNITY® platform, is now available in Canada
  • Significant reductions in energy* delivered into the eye were observed with UNITY® VCS compared to CENTURION® with ACTIVE SENTRY® during cataract surgery2
  • Cutting-edge technologies including UNITY® VCS, UNITY® CS, Valeda®, and Clareon® PanOptix® Pro to be featured across Alcon conference activities

MONTRÉAL–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Alcon, the global leader in eye care dedicated to helping people see brilliantly, today announced the launch and Canadian availability of UNITY® Cataract System (CS), Alcon’s next-generation standalone cataract surgical platform, which will be showcased at the Canadian Ophthalmological Society (COS) Annual Meeting and Exhibition taking place June 18–21, 2026, in Montréal, Québec. The annual meeting brings together ophthalmologists and eye care professionals from across Canada to explore the latest developments in ophthalmic research, surgery, and patient care.

The Canadian availability of UNITY® CS builds on growing global momentum for the UNITY platform, which has already supported more than 285,000 procedures globally across 1,350 systems worldwide. UNITY® CS is Alcon’s standalone cataract surgical system and part of the platform, which also includes UNITY® Vitreoretinal Cataract System (VCS). While UNITY® VCS supports both vitreoretinal and cataract procedures within one integrated platform, UNITY® CS is dedicated specifically to cataract surgery.

At COS 2026, Alcon will demonstrate how its latest cataract surgical innovations are helping advance a more efficient and connected future for ophthalmic surgery, with UNITY® CS serving as the defining surgical innovation highlight at this year’s conference.

This launch is part of a broader wave of innovation from Alcon in 2026, with multiple new product introductions across surgical and therapeutic categories – including UNITY® VCS, PanOptix® Pro, and Valeda® photobiomodulation (PBM) device for the treatment of early and intermediate dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) – reflecting the company’s continued commitment to advancing eye care through a robust and expanding innovation pipeline.

“COS 2026 marks an exciting milestone for Alcon as we continue advancing the next generation of surgical innovation in Canada,” said Mark Newson, Country Manager and Head of Surgical, Alcon Canada. “With UNITY® CS, we are bringing forward technology designed to help surgeons and surgical teams operate with greater efficiency, consistency, and confidence in cataract surgery while supporting a smoother workflow in the operating room.”

Designed to support greater surgical efficiency and consistency, UNITY® CS leverages a novel phacoemulsification modality engineered to deliver up to two times faster nucleus removal^ with 40% less energy** into the eye. The platform also features a first-of-its-kind phaco handpiece that estimates temperature at the incision site.1,2,3

The UNITY® VCS/CS system has also received international recognition for innovation in surgical technology. Earlier this year, Alcon was named the Overall Winner in the 2026 BIG Innovation Awards for UNITY® VCS, recognized for transforming ophthalmic surgical workflows through innovation and measurable impact. More recently, UNITY® VCS received a Silver Edison Award in the Surgical Robotics & Precision Therapy category, recognizing the platform’s advancements in surgical precision and workflow integration.

UNITY® VCS and UNITY® CS are among the newest innovations from the Alcon Vision Suite, a portfolio of products designed to help Eye Care Professionals increase clinic and operating room efficiency.

“Together, these innovations reflect Alcon’s continued focus on advancing the future of ophthalmic care in Canada,” added Newson. “This is just the beginning as we continue to build on the UNITY® platform to deliver a new standard of connected surgical innovation for Canadian ophthalmology.”

About UNITY® CS and UNITY® VCS

UNITY® Vitreoretinal Cataract System (VCS) is Alcon’s most advanced surgical platform designed to support both vitreoretinal and cataract procedures within one integrated platform, and UNITY® Cataract System (CS) is a standalone cataract system. The design of both these systems reflects a broader commitment to patients and care teams alike, helping hospitals and surgical centres provide effective vision-restoring surgery that can have a lasting impact on patients and their families.

The UNITY® platform supports the delivery of high-quality surgical care for patients with vision-threatening eye conditions by helping surgeons operate with greater consistency, stability and efficiencies over Alcon’s current leading systems, CONSTELLATION® Vision System for vitreoretinal and combined procedures††,†,‡, and CENTURION® Vision System with ACTIVE SENTRY® for cataract surgery.***,4
