The opening of the CT scanner suite elevates the top-ranked rehabilitation provider’s award-winning care
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Burke Rehabilitation®, a leading provider of advanced physical and medical rehabilitation and member of the Montefiore Health System, announced today the opening of a CT scanner suite, located in its hospital in White Plains, New York. The on-site CT scanner will strengthen the organization’s ability to faster diagnose and treat patients’ illnesses and injuries, improving outcomes and creating a more seamless patient care experience.
The new CT Scanner Suite was made possible through $1 million in state capital funding, including: $500,000 secured by Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, $250,000 secured by Senator Shelley Mayer, and $250,000 secured by Assemblywoman Amy Paulin. The funding is part of New York’s Community Resiliency, Economic Sustainability and Technology Program.
“Guided by our mission to provide the highest quality care, the on-site CT Scanner represents a significant enhancement and elevation of our nationally recognized care and patient experience,” said Scott Edelman, CPA, MBA, CFE, Executive Director of Burke Rehabilitation. “We extend our sincere gratitude to Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins, Senator Mayer, and Assemblywoman Paulin for their vision, leadership, and steadfast support in making this achievement possible. This investment allows our care teams to faster diagnose brain injuries on-site without patients leaving our intensive inpatient rehabilitation environment, thus further improving patient experience and clinical outcomes.”
On-site CT imaging at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital will improve access for patients, reduce the need for transportation to outside facilities, and allow the ability to deliver faster, more seamless care. It will ultimately support quicker clinical decision-making and provide the highest quality rehabilitation experience to patients and their caregivers. This continuity of care can be lifesaving for conditions when every minute matters.
“Burke Rehabilitation continues to provide the highest quality care for patients seeking rehabilitation in our community, and I was proud to secure state funding to help make their new onsite CT scanner suite a reality,” said Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins. “The opening marks an exciting advancement in the ability to diagnose and treat patients recovering from traumatic illnesses and injuries at Burke. This is exactly the kind of targeted investment we should be making to ensure enhanced access to world-class rehabilitative care right here in Westchester.”
Designed by Lothrop Associates and constructed by MACC Contracting, the 2,600-square-foot suite complements several investments made to the hospital over recent years. Recent investments include the implementation of smart beds, an innovative technology shown to improve patient health outcomes and experience with a focus on safety, while promoting faster recovery times. Burke also constructed a specialized state-of-the-art neuro rehabilitation gym for patients recovering from neurological conditions at the hospital, further supported by additional outpatient sites across the Hudson Valley equipped with advanced equipment and therapies to support patients throughout their neurological care journey.
State Senator Shelley Mayer said, “I am pleased to join Burke Rehabilitation in celebrating the opening of their new on-site CT scanner. This state-of-the-art technology is a significant step in ensuring that patients and their families can access critical diagnostic services, bringing faster and more accurate diagnoses, which will in turn, improve outcomes and improve the rehabilitation experience. I am proud to have secured funding to support this project. I thank Burke Rehabilitation for their continued commitment to delivering exceptional, compassionate care to our community.”
Burke anticipates that the state-of-the-art 128-slice CT scanner suite will serve up to 350 hospital patients per year, including those suspected of having complications such as a second stroke or brain bleed. In addition, the new suite will also expand Burke services to the broader community by offering outpatient CT and X-ray imaging, accommodating up to 5,000 radiology appointments per year. Scans will be conducted on-site and read electronically, eliminating any delays.
“Burke Rehabilitation has long set the standard of medical rehabilitation excellence,” said Assemblywoman Amy Paulin. “The addition of the on-site CT Scanner represents a meaningful investment in patient care, ensuring that those healing from complex conditions have access to advanced technology available. I am pleased to have helped bring this project to fruition and commend Burke for its tireless commitment to enhancing the lives of patients and families throughout Westchester and beyond.”
The opening of the CT scanner suite was celebrated at a ribbon cutting held on June 17 attended by elected officials, healthcare professionals, and business leaders. For more information about Burke Rehabilitation, please visit burke.org.
