Industry-leading Centers of Excellence solution expands access to BiTE and CAR T at more predictable costs
SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#JustAskTranscarent—Transcarent, the first agentic AI-powered health and care platform, today announced a first-of-its-kind bundled payment model for bispecific T-cell engager (BiTE) and CAR T therapies delivered through high-quality community providers, further enhancing their industry-leading complex care Centers of Excellence (COE) capabilities. The model enables Transcarent’s Cancer Care experience to bring advanced cancer care closer to where Members live while giving employers a more predictable way to manage rising oncology costs.
Advanced therapies for specialty conditions like cancer represent some of the most significant treatment advances, particularly for patients who have exhausted other options, but they also introduce new access, cost, and care coordination challenges for employers. Innovative cancer treatments can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and are often limited to a small number of academic medical centers, requiring patients and caregivers to travel long distances while navigating complex referrals and prior authorization requirements.
“Advanced cancer therapies are changing what’s possible for patients, but they’re also creating new challenges for employers trying to manage costs and access,” said Snezana Mahon, PharmD, President of Transcarent. “This model gives employers more predictable costs while helping Members receive expert care closer to home without sacrificing quality.”
This expansion enhances Transcarent’s Centers of Excellence (COE) program by making specialty care easier to access, easier to navigate, and more affordable. Through bundled payment agreements with high-quality regional and community providers, Members can receive coordinated care with expert guidance throughout their care journey while employers get more predictable costs.
Since BiTE and CAR T therapies are used to treat a range of complex cancers and patient circumstances, the total cost of treatment can vary significantly from case to case. Transcarent connects Members to leading oncology providers across academic medical centers, NCI-Designated Cancer Centers, and high-quality community-based sites of care for complex cancer services, including surgery, radiation, infusions, and now CAR T and BiTE therapies. By expanding access to advanced immunotherapies, Transcarent’s model makes it easier for people to get quality treatment closer to home and offers the potential for savings of up to $150,0001.
“Expanding access to innovative therapies like BiTE and CAR T in high-quality community settings is a critical step towards more equitable cancer care,” said Karen Knudsen, MBA, PhD, past Chief Executive Officer of the American Cancer Society and Chair of Transcarent’s Cancer Care Advisory Board. “This model can reduce barriers to treatment while improving the experience for people and their families facing some of the most complex cancers.”
Members receiving BiTE or CAR T therapies through Transcarent’s Cancer Care COE network are supported by dedicated ACS LION™-certified Oncology Nurse Navigators (ONN) who serve as a consistent point of contact from referral through recovery. Transcarent’s ONN team plays a central role in guiding Members and their families through the complexity of BiTE and CAR T therapies by coordinating care across providers, helping Members understand treatment options, and removing barriers to care.
Transcarent is working with national oncology practices, including Vantris Oncology, an oncology management and network organization that implements value-based cancer care models bringing together community oncology practices and providers nationally. The combination of a national community oncology infrastructure with Transcarent’s integrated navigation, quality, and value-based payment model enables high-quality cancer care, including advanced therapies, in community settings closer to Members’ support networks. This approach creates a more consistent experience while aligning quality, access, and affordability.
“Cell therapies which harness the power of the immune system to destroy cancer cells are treatment breakthroughs which can dramatically improve the lives of people with cancer and autoimmune diseases. The science is amazing, but the problem is one of access and affordability,” said Edward Licitra, MD, PhD, CEO of Vantris Oncology. “Together, Transcarent and Vantris’ nationwide network of community practices can transform access to these life-saving therapies by making them available to patients wherever they live.“
