AlphaLab Named to America’s Best Incubators & Accelerators 2026 List

PITTSBURGH–(BUSINESS WIRE)–AlphaLab, Innovation Works’ nationally recognized startup accelerator, has been named one of America’s Best Incubators & Accelerators 2026 by TIME and Statista.

TIME and Statista evaluated more than 2,000 accelerator and incubator programs across the United States based on track record, peer recommendations, and measurable founder outcomes. The methodology considered alumni evaluations, the performance of participating companies, and recommendations from startup investors and experienced entrepreneurs.

Founded in 2008 as one of the nation’s first 10 startup accelerators, AlphaLab’s recognition nearly two decades later reflects the program’s continued evolution alongside the changing needs of early-stage founders. Since its founding, AlphaLab has supported more than 300 companies that have gone on to raise more than $1.4 billion in follow-on funding and achieve more than 20 exits.

“This recognition belongs to the founders who have come through our doors and the mentors and staff who have worked alongside them,” said Aaron Tainter, Director of Accelerator Programs at Innovation Works. “Being ranked as one of the top accelerators in the county reflects both what our alumni have gone on to accomplish and the hands-on, founder-first approach we’ve built at AlphaLab.”

AlphaLab supports startups across four tracks — software, hardware, health, and robotics — with up to $100,000 in investment per company. The program continues to deepen its sector expertise through strategic partnerships, including a new collaboration with Allegheny Health Network’s Neuroscience Institute to launch a dedicated neuroscience track within AlphaLab Health in 2027.

Pittsburgh’s concentration of technical talent, world-class research, industry expertise, and collaborative startup community provides a distinctive environment for company building. AlphaLab helps founders tap into those regional strengths to commercialize new technologies and build companies across robotics, artificial intelligence, life sciences, software, and other advanced technology sectors.

“Over the past 17 years, we have remained focused on building best-in-class programs that provide meaningful support to early-stage founders,” said Ven Raju, President and CEO of Innovation Works. “This recognition is a testament to the entrepreneurs who have harnessed the strengths of Pittsburgh’s innovation ecosystem to bring new ideas to market, scale their businesses, and build enduring companies.”

AlphaLab’s current cohort is its largest to date, bringing together 21 startups across its four tracks. Through its six-month, in-person model, founders receive hands-on support in customer acquisition, founder-led sales, fundraising preparation, technical development, and connections to Pittsburgh’s broader innovation ecosystem. The next AlphaLab cohort will begin in 2027.
