Gozio Health Survey: Nine out of Ten Patients Want a Single Digital Platform for Managing Their Healthcare

A single mobile app is the preferred method for half of patients due to ease of use and convenience

ATLANTA–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Nearly all consumers prefer using a single digital platform to manage their healthcare needs, and half would choose a mobile app over a desktop or laptop to access available features, according to a new survey commissioned by Gozio Health, an industry-leading, customizable, location-aware mobile engagement platform. Notably, more than one-third (37%) would use a single mobile app for all their healthcare needs, compared with less than 10% who would never use an app.

Additional findings include:

Use of mobile devices for healthcare is now mainstream. The vast majority (86%) of those who received medical care in the last 12 months used a mobile device when interacting with their provider.

While a single platform is preferred, it’s not uncommon for patients to use two or more platforms, websites or apps to manage their healthcare needs. Nearly half (46%) used more than two platforms when interacting with their providers.

Consumer expectations for healthcare mobile experiences are high, especially given the prevalence of mobile native environments. The ability to manage healthcare through a single platform, website or mobile app was “extremely,” “very,” or “somewhat” important for 89% of respondents.

“With 97% of Americans owning a cellular device (Pew Research), immediate accessibility to access email or find the quickest commute to work has become second nature,” said Sara Meinke, MSHI, CHCIO, CDH-E, Sr. Director, Enterprise IT Ambulatory Network Innovation at Baptist Health. “It’s imperative that we provide all the tools to support the patient’s care journey in a single mobile solution. For our patients, it’s no longer a nicety; it’s expected.”

The survey of 695 adults ages 18 and older was conducted by Big Village in November 2023. Research aimed to identify consumer preferences related to mobile healthcare engagement and the importance of accessing healthcare via a single platform.

“Health systems must view mobile engagement as a competitive differentiator in 2024 given the direct correlation between a patient’s overall satisfaction with their healthcare and the digital experience offered by the healthcare provider,” said Joshua Titus, CEO and founder of Gozio Health. “The findings of this survey align with Gozio’s mission to help health systems create unified mobile experiences that engage patients across their healthcare journey, from scheduling appointments to navigating to their appointment location to accessing follow up care.”
