Landmark procedure shows outpatient surgery can deliver high quality outcomes at a fraction of the cost
PORTLAND, Ore.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Oath Surgical today announced the successful completion of the first robotic prostatectomy performed in an outpatient surgery center in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. The procedure, performed at Oath’s surgery center in Beaverton, Oregon, by urologic surgeon Dr. David Jiang of The Oregon Clinic, is an important milestone in Oath’s mission to transform surgical care through a payment model built around better outcomes, patient value, surgeon-led clinical innovation, and technology-enabled outpatient surgical care. Performing this type of surgery in the outpatient setting can save as much as $20,000 per case, savings that reach patients directly as well as the payors who cover the cost of their care.

A robotic prostatectomy is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat prostate cancer and other prostate conditions. It has historically been done in hospitals due to its complexity, but it is now among the advanced procedures available in Oath’s outpatient centers. As patients and payors (including self-insured employers and health plans) look to reduce unsustainable year-over-year rises in healthcare premiums, surgeons can now partner with Oath to help save millions of dollars a year for patients and payors in our region.
