Wave Neuroscience to Lead Panel on Brainwave Data and the Future of Mental Health at SXSW 2023

The Braincare™ Company is joined by former NFL Center Nick Hardwick and renowned sports neurologist Dr. Vernon Williams to discuss new data-driven approaches to personalized mental health care

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Wave Neuroscience, the pioneer in personalized cognitive health and performance enhancement technologies, will present a panel discussion on technology and mental health at the SXSW 2023 Conference. The session, Your Brain Data and the Future of Mental Health, will take place on Saturday, March 11, at 11:30 a.m. CST, as part of the conference’s Health and MedTech track.

The panel brings together leaders at the forefront of neuroscience and mental health technologies to discuss emerging capabilities in scalable, objective brain data capture and how this technology can produce actionable insights to personalize neurological care models. The discussion will delve into the applications of brainwave knowledge for therapeutic and optimizational cognitive care.

Panelists include:

Nick Hardwick – Former NFL Center for the San Diego Chargers. After 11 seasons of professional football, and almost 30,000 hits to the head, Nick dedicated his efforts to recovery and achieved improved focus, retention, and motivation through brain stimulation. Now, he champions fitness and nutrition education through personal training and his podcast “The Hardwick Life”. Through discussions surrounding fitness, family, food, and football, Nick preaches best lifestyle practices to help others reclaim their health.

Dr. Vernon Williams – Founding Director of the Center for Sports Neurology and Pain Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute. Dr. Williams is a neurological medical consultant to Los Angeles-based professional sports organizations and local college and high schools. He also serves as Commissioner for the California State Athletic Commission, Chair of the American Academy of Neurology Sports Neurology Section, and as an inaugural member of the Peloton Health and Wellness Advisory Council.

Dr. Erik Won – President and Chief Medical Officer of Wave Neuroscience. An expert in cognitive care and injury recovery, Dr. Won served as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Navy and worked as Boeing’s CTO of Medical for nearly a decade. Dr. Won holds an MBA from the USC Marshall School of Business and an MPH from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

“Tremendous unlocked potential lies within brainwave data. From therapies for debilitating cognitive conditions like PTSD and TBIs to augmenting under-optimized performative functions like memory and focus, understanding our unique brain patterns can lead to significant improvements, not just in mental but overall health,” said Won. “We need to shift the way we approach mental health care, with a greater focus on highly personalized models of treatment. This panel discussion is a significant step in the right direction.”
